COMPETITIONS

AIR- GUN

The club has air rifle and pistol target shooting every Thursday evening
starting in December and ending the last week in March. Any air gun that
shoots pellets cal,177, 20mm and 22 are  allowed but we do not allow BB,s
as they often bounce back. We shoot at eight novelty targets and one team
shoot per night. We also have one 50/50 target. The cost for the eight
targets   $2.00. We have two starting times, The first is 4:30pm until
done, for people that can not make the late shoot. The next shoot starts
at 7:00pm and runs until every person has finished their targets. Usually
about 9:00pm we allow any type air rifle or pistol with any sight
configuration, open or scope. The shoot is open to all members and non
members any age. Young children must be accompanied by an adult. If you do
not own an air gun, come out anyway as there is always someone that
will let you use theirs. We have a room with a fire place for the person
that does not shoot. The club has a policy that all shooters wear safety
glasses, that we have on hand.

Trapshooting and Five Stand Clays for 2008 

Trap and Five Stand move to Thursday’s this year. We will start the season on April 3rd at 4:00pm with trap and continue until every group has finished. We start five stand on April 10th and alternate each week through September between trap and five stand. We also shoot a short course for small gauge shotguns on the trap range. The cost is $4.00 for 25 clays. Public Invited!

Sporting Clays for 2008 

We shoot the first Sunday of the month (except October, November, and December) starting at 9am. Weather permitting in January, February, and March. If the temp. is below 20 degrees at starting time we will not shoot. 

A big Pancake, Eggs, and Sausage breakfast is served in the clubhouse from 7:30am to 9:00am prior to shooting for a cost of $3.00. 

We start shooting at 9:00am and run to 1:00pm. There will be no sign-up after 1:00pm. The first three months we shoot a 25 bird course at five stations for $5.00. In April we start a 50 bird course at eight stations for $10.00. We would like to limit group size to not more than five people. Especially if there are small children in the squads. Safety Glasses and Hearing protection are required! 

Please turn in score cards after you shoot. Coffee and Rolls are available for a donation and Pop is for sale. For safety ALL ranges are closed to general shooting until this event is over and the Range Officer opens the club to shooting again (usually by 2pm).

Bowling Pin Shooting for 2008 

We will have our first shoot on Saturday April 12th, starting at 9:00am to about 1:00pm. The schedule for the rest of 2008 is as follows: April 26th, May 10th & 24th, June 7th & 21st, July 5th & 19th, August 2nd & 16th, and September 13th and 20th

Any handgun semi-auto and revolver, 9mm and up can be used. We have five positions from 30 feet to 50 feet with five bowling pins at each position. The semi-auto can use two magazines with seven rounds in each and the revolvers can load twice. This is a timed event and is strictly for fun. Any type of sights are allowed. Safety Glasses and Hearing protection required. When not shooting you will be asked to be time keeper and safety officer for one of the shooters. After you have shot, when the person in charge gives the order, you go down range and reset pins for the next shooter. 

We also have two stations for .22 cal. Handguns, with ten cut-off pins. The cost for one round is .50 cents. Re-entry is .50 cents. The 9mm and up is $4.00 and re-entry is $2.00. This is fired on the special use lower range. This shoot is open to the public and all club members. In case of storm we may cancel the event for that day.

Action Pistol Shooting for 2008 

Every Thursday evening starting May 1st, 5:00pm till dusk. Public Welcome and bring your husband, wife or a friend! Beginner Friendly!

This shoot is for FUN! Always looking for people interested in shooting this event. 

We will be shooting at cardboard I.D.P.A. targets. Some will be from behind cover, while moving, kneeling, sitting and several different positions. 

Safety first! Please know how to use your gun safely. Safety Glasses and Hearing protection required. 

All you need is a pistol in good working condition, extra magazines, and mag. holder, strong side holster, and 100 rds. Ammo. You may use a concealment garment (long shirt, coat, etc.) This is not required. No shoulder or cross draw holsters allowed. The type of guns used are what you would use carrying a concealed weapon. This shoot will be timed and scored. Shooter’s will be asked to help set-up, paste targets, and clean-up. There will be a $3.00 donation per shooter. Time: Firing will commence at 9:00 AM 

Registration: Is held on the day of tournament from 8:00 to 8:55AM (Cut-off time). 

Entry Fees: $15.00 per competitor. $12.00 for Juniors (rule 2.3) 

Range Capacity: 38 competitors (two relays) 

Course of Fire: The 50 shot National Match Course will be fired at 200 yards as follows: rule 7.14 

10 shots; 10 min.; Standing; Slowfire; Target SR

10 shots; 60 sec.; Sitting or Kneeling from Standing; Rapidfire; Target SR

10 shots; 70 sec.; Prone from Standing; Rapidfire; Target SR-42

20 shots; 20 min.; Prone, Slowfire; Target MR-52 

Rifles Allowed: Service Rifle rules: M1 3.1, M1A 3.1.1, AR-15 3.1.2, or CMP 3.1.3, Match Rifle rules: 3.3 NRA Match Rifle or

3.3.1 Semi-Auto Match Rifle. 

Sighting Shots: Three sighters will be taken prior to the start of the 1st stage (off-hand). Two sighters will be taken prior to the start of the 4th stage

(slow prone). Sighters may be fired from any position (rule 5.13). No other sighters will be taken.

Classification: Current NRA Highpower Rifle Classification system will be used. 

No Refires: Rule 9.12 will apply. 

Scoring: Competitors will be required to score targets on the frames. 

Rules: Current NRA Highpower Rifle rules will apply. Current rulebooks are available from the National Rifle Association.

Awards: Will be presented at a ceremony after the tournament. An award schedule will posted on the range. 

Optical Sight Category: Scopes will be allowed, but competitors must conform to NRA rule 3.3.4. No scores fired under this rule will be

reported to NRA for classification. Competitors firing in the optical sight category will not be eligible for any tournament awards. 

Range Officers: As you know, our range officers are competitors who volunteer their time to also serve as range officers.

As a recognition for their service, we will waive the entry fee (Range officers shoot FREE). If you would like to serve as a range officer for the day,

just tell the Statistical officer when signing-in to shoot.

CMP Garand/Springfield (M1 for Vets) Matches at KRGC for 2008

Match open to all U.S. Citizens 16 years or older. You do not need to be a member of KRGC or the NRA. 

Time: Firing will commence at 9:00 AM 

Registration: Is held on day of match from 8:00 to 8:55 AM. (cut-off) 

Entry Fees: $20.00 (includes ammo). AR-15s $15.00, but must supply own ammo. All profits from these two matches will be

donated to the M1 for Vets program. 

Course of Fire: The CMP John C. Garand "Course A" will be utilized. All firing will be conducted at 200 yards on the SR target. 

5 Sighting Shots; Any legal position; Slow Fire single load; 5 min.

10 Shots; Prone; Slow Fire; Single load; 10 min.

10 Shots; Standing to Prone; Rapid fire: 70/80 sec.

10 Shots; Standing; Slow fire; Single load; 10 min. 

Rifle Allowed: As-issued U.S. Rifle Caliber .30 M1 Garand 9.2.2. or caliber. M1903 Springfield 9.3.2. AR-15s may be used,

but will not be eligible for awards. 

Ammunition: CMP .30/06 M2 ball ammunition will be issued at registration (35 rounds) and must be used.

All competitors will fire the same issued ammo.

INDOOR PISTOL & WEST MICHIGAN PISTOL LEAGUE

INDOOR 22 CALIBER PISTOL

The Kalamazoo Rod & Gun Clubhouse is open to members to shoot indoor 22 caliber pistol starting in December. 

Range time is every Tuesday evening at 6:30pm to 9:00pm.  This is basic pistol marksmanship and bulls-eye pistol shooting using 22 caliber pistols.

New shooters are welcome to come out and learn the skills and fundamentals of pistol marksmanship.

Range fees are $4.00, eye and ear protection are required.

.22 Rifle Metallic Silhouette for 2008 

May 15 & 29, June 12 & 26, July 10 & 24, and August 7 & 21

begins in May, with eight matches on alternate Thursdays, concluding in August, always skipping the July 4th week. 

A forty shot course is fired from the standing position, ten shots at each distance of 40, 60, 77 and 100 meters. Metal cutout targets of chickens (40),

pigs(60), turkeys(77) and rams(100) are shot with scoped .22lr rifles using standard or high velocity ammo--no hyper velocity allowed,

as it can damage the targets.

 

NRA rules are loosely followed, with Standard Rifle category(10 lb., 4 oz. rifle/scope limit), and Hunter Rifle category(8 1/2 lb. rifle/scope limit)

used for competition and prizes. The firing time is five minutes for each ten shot stage, with targets fired on consecutively, left to right.

Prize money is given from entry fees, currently $5 per rifle/category.

 

The rifle range is used, with set up starting about 5:30 p.m. and firing concluding around 8:30 p.m.

The Junior Program takes beginners from about age 10 & teaches the proper use and care of rifles.  Then we proceed to how to shoot competitively.

Kalamazoo Rod & Gun Club Rimfire Sporter Rifle Matches

2008 Dates: Tuesday Evening's: May 27, June 24, July 29, August 26

Time: Registration opens at 6:00pm. Firing starts 6:30pm. We will fire only one relay. Entry limit: 18 shooters.

Cost: $5.00

Location: On the lower range.

Rifles Allowed: Rifles used in the Rimfire Sporter Rifle Match must be standard sporter-type rimfire rifles that meet the following requirements:

Overall weight of the rifle may not exceed 8.5 pounds, with sights and sling.

Adjustable butt plates, adjustable cheek pieces and rails or adjustable sling swivels are not permitted.

Rifles with any type action may be used. Rifles should have a magazine capable of holding five rounds so that it can be used during rapid-fire stages.

For safety the trigger must be capable of lifting three pounds when cocked.

Telescopic, receiver or open sights may be used.

A standard leather or web sling no wider than 1 1/4" may be used in prone, sitting or kneeling. No slings may be used in the standing position.

Course of Fire: 70 rounds total, 10 sighting shots and 60 shots for record on the CMP Rimfire Sporter Target.

Stage 1, 50 yards, 10 Sighting shots, prone position (a rest or support may be used only during sighting shots), time limit 10 minutes (another shooter or coach may assist the competitor in adjusting sights).

Stage 2, 50 yards, 10 shots for record, slow fire, prone position, time limit 10 minutes.

Stage 3, 50 yards, two series of five shots for record, standing to prone, rapid fire, time limit 25 seconds for semi-autos, 30 seconds for manually operated rifles.

Stage 4, 50 yards, 10 shots for record, sitting or kneeling, slow fire, 10 minutes.

Stage 5, 50 yards, two series of five shots for record, standing to sitting or kneeling, rapid fire, time limit 25 seconds for semi-autos, 30 seconds for manually operated rifles.

Stage 6, 25 yards, 10 shots for record, standing position, time limit 10 minutes.

Stage 7, 25 yards, two series of five shots for record standing position (shooter must start with rifle butt at the hip), rapid fire, time limit 25 seconds for semi-autos, 30 seconds for manually operated rifles.

Alibis: No alibis or refires are allowed during any stage of the match because of rifle or ammunition malfunctions. It is important that the rifle used be clean and in good working condition so that it will not malfunction during rapid-fire stages. If a rifle malfunctions or jams, shooters may attempt to clear the malfunction and continue firing, but no extra time is allowed for firing.

Scoring: A total of 7 targets will be issued and competitors will trade targets with another competitor for scoring after all firing is completed.

Other Equipment: Shooting jackets, special shooting trousers or shooting boots may not be worn. A maximum of two sweatshirts or soft, pliable shirts may be worn. Regular work or hunting-type boots may be worn. An ordinary leather or other work glove may be worn on the hand that supprots the rifle; special target shooting gloves or mitts may not be used.

Safety Equipment: Eye and Hearing protection required. Open Bolt Indicators (OBI's) must be used. We will have some for purchase at cost.

Times: Registration will start at 8am each morning.

Matches/firing will start at approximately 9am, 10:15am,

11:00am, 1:00pm, 2:15pm, and 3:30pm.

Distinguished matches will be held at 12 Noon and 5pm each day.

Squadding preference. Pre registration is suggested but not required.
